Last weekend I made an upgrade on my shack PC from Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to 12.04 LTS. Basically it was a clean new installation, because the distribution update from 10.04 to 12.04 didn’t work very well. After the upgrade I added the the PPA from Petr OK2CQR and Ubuntu Hams to the software sources for a new installation of CQRLOG and FLDIGI.

Everything worked fine out of the box, except the TRX control via the USB to RS232 adapter (/dev/ttyUSB0), neither with Hamlib nor with rigctld. After a quick check I realized again, that a standard user under Ubuntu is not member of the group dialout. But that’s necessary for the usage of the USB to RS232 adapter. I added the current user to the group dialout with this terminal command:

sudo adduser $USER dialout

After a logout/login everything worked flawless.
